Due to the increasing concerns of COVID-19 exposure, any person that has a matter within the Howell Township Municipal Court that is not facing a consequence of magnitude may complete the Plea by Mail form attached and mail the completed form to the Municipal Court at 300 Old Tavern Road, Howell, NJ 07731, email to tracey.sorrentino@njcourts.gov or fax to 732-938-7054.  Please include a valid email and phone number in case the Municipal Prosecutor needs to discuss the matter further.

A consequence of magnitude is a jail sentence, loss of license or fine exceeding $800. Common statutes that include these penalties and cannot be taken care of by affidavit are: 39:4-50, 39:3-40, 39:3-10, 39:6b-2. If you have a traffic ticket, a guilty or not guilty plea may be entered by affidavit. If you have a criminal or quasi-criminal offense, such a town ordinance, only a guilty plea may be accepted by affidavit. As of March 26, 2020, our first scheduled court session is 4/22/2020. Please make sure the court has your valid address so that you get notices of any future changes.

We recognize that we are an independent branch of government, constitutionally entrusted with the fair and just resolution of disputes in order to preserve the rule of law and to protect the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States and this State.

Municipal Court

The Municipal Court is responsible for the proper disposition of all municipal traffic violations within the Township of Howell. The Court also hears building code violations and minor criminal complaints. Court sessions are held every Wednesday at 12:00 Noon and Friday at 9:00 a.m.

If you are mailing payments or fines for violations listed on the violations schedule as being payable through the Violations Bureau without a required court appearance, please make your check or money order payable to the "Howell Township Municipal Court" and mail it to the court address listed on the right along with the summons or other notice or you may pay online at New Jersey Courts online payment page.

REMINDER: Motor vehicle fines automatically double in construction zones. Please drive safely.
