Tax Savings Programs
The State of NJ offers a property tax deduction for qualified seniors, 100% disabled persons, Veterans and their widows or widowers. Applications are available and filed in the Tax Assessor's office, 4567 Rt 9 North, Howell, NJ. Completed applications can be mailed to the Howell Township Assessor's office, P.O. Box 580, Howell, NJ 07731.

•SENIOR CITIZENS DEDUCTION $250
Age 65 or more by Dec. 31 of the pretax year. Income cannot exceed $10,000 annually combined for the household, over and above your Social Security.

•DISABLED DEDUCTION $250 
Applicant must be 100% totally and permanently disabled. Income cannot exceed $10,000 annually combined for the household, over and above your Social Security.

•VETERAN DEDUCTION $250
Applicant must be owner or part owner of the property for which the deduction is claimed. A Veteran has to serve at the time of a war and was honorably discharged. 

•100% PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION ON DWELLING HOUSE OF DISABLED VETERAN OR SURVIVING SPOUSE/SURVIVING CIVIL UNION PARTNER/SURVIVING DOMESTIC PARTNER OF DISABLED VETERAN OR SERVICEPERSON
Income & ownership requirements are the same as the original deduction. The deceased spouse had to be eligible for the deduction at the time of death & the surviving spouse must not have remarried.
