The Land Use office is responsible for regulating and enforcing Howell Township’s Land Use Ordinance which has been established to ensure the proper use of land and to protect the integrity of the master plan. The land use ordinance establishes specific requirements for a given land area within the municipality. It regulates not only the uses in the area, but the size of the parcels, required setbacks, parking, signage, conditional uses, and numerous other standards.
Permits which require land use approval are submitted directly to the Land Use office for approval. The proposed construction is checked for use and area, yard and building requirements by the land use officer. Approved applications can then be forwarded to the Construction Department. Applications / permits issued by the Land Use office:
Outdoor display permits
Paver / concrete patios
Residential and commercial alterations / additions
Residential and commercial new construction
Storage / office trailers
Tree removal permits
All land use/zoning applications that do not require other approvals (building department, engineering, etc.) may be submitted online. To submit a Land Use application online please follow click here.
