Dear Residents,
The latest National Weather Service report is calling this storm "a crippling and potentially historic east coast snow storm with blizzard conditions and major coastal flooding this weekend".
Howell Township is definitely ready for the storm. We want everyone to stay safe.
Our Department of Public Works has a full force ready and has been pretreating our roads and preparing our fleet of plows, spreaders and heavy equipment.
If projections are correct, a storm of this potential magnitude will be a team effort that includes all of us. We urge our citizens to stay off the road for your own safety and in order to help our crews do their jobs.
To be prepared for any emergency, our Office of Emergency Management advises that citizens have at least a three-day supply of water, food, and medicines. This storm is expected to leave us with 12 to 18 inches of snow, high winds, and ice. There is a possibility of power outages.
Please note that all cars must be off the street when snow begins to cover streets. This is crucial and helps our staff remove snow. Plowing will begin when enough snow is on the roads to conduct operations. Blizzard conditions and other unforeseen situations, beyond the control of the township, may temporary hamper snow removal and delay our goal of getting all streets cleared as quickly as possible.
Our crews will work around the clock and certainly deserve our thanks. Our thanks to our Township Manager, Jeff Mayfield as well as George Gravatt, Director of Public Works, for leading the crews. Also our thanks to all our first responders, law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and to all our staff. It is a team effort that keeps us safe.
We kindly ask our residents to please check on your elderly neighbors, and please help ensure that nearby fire hydrants are clear of snow. Ensure that your cell phones are fully charged.
